Between this world and the next
The living human beings, for a brief moment, encounter those who have passed away.
In a dream, you meet a lover who died in a mountain accident.
During a festival, you meet ancestors who passed away long ago.
In a movie I watched yesterday, a person reunites with their parents, who perished in the tsunami during the Great East Japan Earthquake, in their heart at the disaster site.
This might soon be realized in a virtual space created by computers.
You could see the Pyramids of Egypt.
Climb to the top of the Himalayas.
Fall over Niagara Falls.
Fight in a battle with Oda Nobunaga.
No, for me, I would fly across the galaxy.
But you would probably want to meet your deceased family members.
There are a few films with such settings.
In my own life, my parents occasionally appear.
This time, as I write this diary.
Though I still live alone in my parents’ house, I occasionally have the illusion that they are still living here.
I disposed of their clothes and bed, but the dishes and furniture remain.
My father’s study and the living room bookshelf are still disorganized.
Family photos remain as they were.
Recent cosmology based on quantum physics suggests that this universe is merely a virtual space, like a hologram.
The world of the living and the dead should originally be connected.
I have started to become conscious of the moment when my life will open that door.
When I go to the afterlife, will I want to return to this world?
I can only know that once I go there.
Perhaps I will only go to an infinite multidimensional universe.
Is the soul immortal?
I believe so, as long as I do not forget the memories of my parents.
When you watch over your parents as they pass, your own character changes.
You finally become an adult.
Stories of encounters with the world of the dead are always a rite of passage for young people to become adults.
I don’t want to become an adult.
Even now, I still scream that.
Even in the future, if I come back as a spirit, please don’t be surprised.
