A pure love story for adults

Yasunari has never been fond of pure love stories since he was a child.

In many stories, pure love suggests a life of hardship and unfulfilled longing. It’s not just about disloyalty or cruel romantic rivals. There are far too many convenient coincidences that cause misunderstandings.

The protagonist could simply confess their love and clear up any misunderstandings, but instead, they delay and don’t explain right away. They do unnecessary things and don’t say the obvious. It’s frustrating.

Sometimes, it makes me want to yell at the protagonist to explain things clearly. Some might find this frustration endearing and fall in love with the character.

But Yasunari, who is particular about logic, just can’t accept it. He believes that pure love ends in tragedy.

Isn’t that the case with Romeo and Juliet, or West Side Story? Happy endings like The Sound of Music are rare.

Yesterday, I watched a 100% pure love movie at a screening. At first, I felt embarrassed and unsettled by the convenient misunderstandings, but by the end, with a well-crafted script, I was crying, feeling happy.

Even in a tragic love story, the protagonist’s life wasn’t in vain. The child grew up strong and right. Yasunari finally accepted the convenience of pure love stories.

As you get older, you become more tolerant of all kinds of life stories. Though, these are just stories, and real life is much harder.

Yasunari still feels most at home with unrealistic science fiction. He seeks otherworldly dimensions that are far removed from reality. Tomorrow, he’ll head to the movie theater again, his soul traveling through time and space, wandering the universe.

The screen reflects the viewer’s heart, and this diary is my self-portrait for the morning.

Blood sugar: 131

Last night, I had some spicy ginger ale with Italian food. Dining while chatting, taking time over the meal, doesn’t raise blood sugar levels.

I must avoid late-night snacks.
